EQUINE MASSAGE/MUSCLE THERAPY
POST GRADUATE MENTORSHIP
REQUIREMENTS:
It is mandatory that the applicant has graduated
from an equine massage therapy program and has a minimum of 6
mos. in
the field. This course is designed as an advanced continuing
education program. If you are NOT a certified
equine massage therapist PLEASE
DO NOT APPLY. However, please feel free to contact Mike for information
on certification programs or for references
to other equine massage programs.
LENGTH OF PROGRAM:
Classes are held for a period of time determined by the individual or group.
Classes generally range from 1-4 days
Classes are 9am - 4pm daily.
OUTLINE:
Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Massage Technique are
taught each day. Every effort will be made to gear the
class to the collective groups experience. Innovative methods
are used to help the student learn these topics, as well as gait
analysis, in a fun, intuitive and easy to retain fashion.
In the past, many students from Mike's previous classes and other programs have contacted
their classmates and set up seminars in their area. They have
found, to cover Mike's expenses and have him come to their group is less expensive than traveling to SC
in the long run.
SADDLE FITTING:
Mike's experience as a saddlefitter will be introduced with emphasis on how it relates to you as a massage therapist. You will find that this knowledge
can compliment your practice immensely.
PRESENTATIONS:
Guest speakers may be asked to present their
area of expertise from time to time. This may include but not
be limited to: acupuncture, chiropractic, advanced massage techniques,
lameness evaluation and awareness. Also emphasized will be the
importance of ethics, boundaries and ways to effectively communicate
and set up a referral network with other equine professionals.
CADAVER LAB:
This
lab, run in conjunction with Tufts Veterinary Hospital in MA.
has proven to be a huge asset to the participants of the different
programs. All participants are invited to see, touch and question
the structures, systems and different apparatus' of the horse.
This course is highly recommended for the student but is separate
from the program. The lab is generally held in April (annually).
INSTRUCTORS:
The Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy Programs are taught by
director Mike Scott who has also authored the book and video titled "The Basic Principles of Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy" and the DVD "Advanced Muscle Therapy for the horse.
His chief instructor is Joyce Falese from MA. she has worked with Mike since 1995. Joyce has co-written articles with Mike and also 'appears' in the Advanced Muscle Therapy DVD. They are assisted by graduates of the program that have proven themselves
to be successful in the field. Class size is limited to a student
maximum of 8 and if classes fill, there will be an assistant where
warranted.
TUITION:
Tuition varies due to length and group size.
Classes will be held as requested and are limited to 8 students.
