EQUINE MASSAGE/MUSCLE THERAPY

POST GRADUATE MENTORSHIP

REQUIREMENTS:
It is mandatory that the applicant has graduated from an equine massage therapy program and has a minimum of 6 mos. in the field. This course is designed as an advanced continuing education program. If you are NOT a certified equine massage therapist PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. However, please feel free to contact Mike for information on certification programs or for references to other equine massage programs.

LENGTH OF PROGRAM:
Classes are held for a period of time determined by the individual or group.
Classes generally range from 1-4 days
Classes are 10am-5pm daily.

OUTLINE:
Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Massage Technique are taught each day. Every effort will be made to gear the class to the collective groups experience. Innovative methods are used to help the student learn these topics, as well as gait analysis, in a fun, intuitive and easy to retain fashion.

In the past, many students from Mike's previous classes and other programs have contacted their classmates and set up seminars in their area. They have found, to cover Mike's expenses and have him come to their group is less expensive than traveling to SC in the long run.

SADDLE FITTING:
Mike's experience as a saddlefitter will be introduced with emphasis on how it relates to you as a massage therapist. You will find that this knowledge can compliment your practice immensely.

PRESENTATIONS:
Guest speakers may be asked to present their area of expertise from time to time. This may include but not be limited to: acupuncture, chiropractic, advanced massage techniques, lameness evaluation and awareness. Also emphasized will be the importance of ethics, boundaries and ways to effectively communicate and set up a referral network with other equine professionals.

CADAVER LAB:
This lab, run in conjunction with Tufts Veterinary Hospital in MA. has proven to be a huge asset to the participants of the different programs. All participants are invited to see, touch and question the structures, systems and different apparatus' of the horse. This course is highly recommended for the student but is separate from the program. The lab is generally held in April (annually).

INSTRUCTORS:
The Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy Programs are taught by director Mike Scott who has also authored the book and video titled "The Basic Principles of Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy" and the DVD "Advanced Muscle Therapy for the horse. His chief instructor is Joyce Falese from MA. she has worked with Mike since 1995. Joyce has co-written articles with Mike and also 'appears' in the Advanced Muscle Therapy DVD.
